Malaysian Dreams - Part 1 -The Langkawi Experience

Honeymoon is something to be happen as soon as the wedding ends, but in my case due to circumstances at work and studies it got extended a very small period of five months. We chose Malayasia as a destination solely because it was one of the few places apt for the season and also the whole trip would be under our budget.

Malayasia is called Truly Asia, our trip made us experience the Asian Experience in Malaysia! Initially our plan was to Visit Langkawi and Penang, then we dumped Penang for Kuala Lumpur(KL). The trip was fixed for 7 days and in this blog i will detail my MalayASIAN experience.

Connectivity

Malayasia is one country which is well connected with India. From Kochi there are more than 3 to 4 flights operating daily and from Trivandrum there is one flight operating daily. We chose the Malindo Airways flight from Trivandrum, the only one. The flight departs at 00:30am every day, the flight arrives at 11:30pm IST.

My Malayasian Visa and Langkawi local tour was arranged through my friend Fakrudeen of Vyomayaan Tours.

To reach Langkawi, there are two ways, one epic and other the usual, through air. There are hourly flights to Langkawi from KL. The epic one is to take boat from Penang to Langkawi.

The Langkawi Experience

Langkawi means Land of Eagles

Day 1 : Reaching Langkawi.

My flight from Trivandrum arrived in KL by 8:30am Malaysian Time and my next flight  to Langkawi  was at 12:05pm. This flight's time matched with my  room check in ,which was at 3pm.

We reached Langkawi by 1:15pm, The driver cum guide Mr Arvin was waiting for us at the arrival gate. He dropped us at Hotel Bay View (4 star, one of the best ) in Kuah town, the biggest town in Langkawi Island. It took more than 40 minutes to reach Kuah Town from airport.

Langkawi is a traveler's paradise, its a duty free place, and so chocolates, liquors, and other all other things are cheap when compared with KL and we can find umpteen numbers of Duty Free stores across Langkawi,  Kuah Town is the biggest town in Langkawi and its also the administrative centre of Kedah. Kuah Town is the ideal location for couples, and families. There is no public transportation in Langkawi, so I was forced to depend on Taxis for commute from one place to other.  I couldnt find any Uber taxi in Langkawi, but there is Grab, an official online taxi platform of Malaysia,

After resting for sometime, we went to see Eagle Square in night and also to buy some food items for breakfast, as opted for room only plan for my stay.

Day 2: Sky Bridge, Cable Car and Beaches

The day's plan was to experience the famous Sky bridge and beaches of Langkawi. Langkawi skybridge can be reached only through Sky Cable car, which is one of the steepest Mountain cable car in the world. The whole experience including Sky bridge and 3rd Art Museum cost around 60 to 65 Malaysian Ringgits per person.

The journey through the sky cable car was a life time experience and the flora and fauna down from cable will gave me a relaxed feeling, There is one stop on the way to the top, the tourist can choose to get down or not. We got down to see whats up there, and we found out it was just a place for taking some good photos.

At the final stop at the top station, were were at the hill top. To reach sky bridge there are two options, take a mountain train or trek for 300 mts, We took the trek option to enjoy the little forest area paved to reach the sky bridge.
The Langkawi skybridge connects two hills, and is shaped semi circularly, supported by single piece of steel on the ground. While standing on Skybridge one can see the beautiful Andaman sea on both side surrounded by serene forest. If you are lucky there are chances at fogs may welcome you too, and guess what we were lucky.

After all trekking and hopping in top station , we returned to the base to visit the most wanted 3D Art Museum , if you have a creative person like my wife, then the visit to this place is 100% worth!

After our lunch and shopping, we drove down to Pantai Tengah, a beautiful serene white beach. The perfect place to jump into beach! There are many resorts nearby, if you have beach activity plan, Pantai Tengah and Pantai Cenang is the area you need to book for rooms.

(Pantai means beach in Malay)

Day 3 : Island Hopping and Langkawi Night Market.

Langkawi main island is surrounded by many small beautiful limestone islands. The island hopping is one of the best experience you can get in Langkawi. I booked by experience through Klook. Klook is an app/website which covers major attractions across East Asia. I was contacted by the service provider on day 2 and instructed me to wait at the hotel lobby at 8:45am. The toyota traveller pickup van reached in front of hotel at the scheduled time, and we were picked along with others and was headed towards the boat jetty.

Island hopping is done through speed boat and its nerve thrilling! It covers 3 attractions in 3 hours one beach, eagle feeding and a Geo park! Inside Geo park, there is a naturally formed lake, where you can do kaykaying (I did for the first time in my life) , peddling or even swimming! On the way to Geopark, the boar driver will stop for us to see the pregnant lady shaped Hills.

The cost will be around 60 Ringgits per person.

Night markets in Langkawi is very famous, it happens at 7 different locations on the 7 days of the week. On Saturday's it happens in Kuah Town, and very near to Bay View. Its a paradise for foodies, as you can try almost every local malay cuisine, from Satays, Nasi Goreng, Nasi Ayam , Roasted Chicken , Roti Burgers, Apppams, to Kellkalpams!  You can also find second hand goods and fresh fish sale in the Night Markets.

Day 4 : Wildlife Park, Buddhist temples, Cenang and Departure

After checking out from Hotel at 12:00pm, we headed straight to Eagle Square. After eagle square we went to Wildlife Park, a major attraction in Langkawi, Its an indoor wildlife park designed to host more than 100 species! The main attraction is that we can feed animals. The entry fees is around 45 Ringgits per person. The feed can be brought at around 6 Ringgits. In each cage prescribed food is mentioned and you just need to show your hands or drop on the ground. The happiness in feeding them is immense.

After wildlife park we went to visit two buddhist temples adjacent to each other. After that we headed to Cenang Area, which is one of the happening place in Langkawi, Full of life and energy and Tourist, we spend some time hopping on and off shops and malls in that area and also visiting the Cenang Beach.

Mr Arvin dropped us back at Airport and we said adieu to Langkawi for giving us a memorable life time experience !
